Oral History Ptoject: Louie Welch
Shortly before his passing, former Houston Mayor Louie Welch, was interviewed for the Houston Oral History Project, an initiative of the Mayor's Office for Cultural Affairs and the Houston Public Library, in cooperation with the University of Houston Oral History Department. The following excerpts from that interview offer insight into the contributions of Houston's mayor during a period of rapid growth and social change.
The Houston Oral History Project will produce over 100 interviews with Houstonians who made and witnessed our city's history. The interviews will be available in video, audio and transcript form, available at the Houston Public Library, the University of Houston, and on a website. The first interviews should be available for public viewing within 60 days.
The contents of these excerpts and all the interviews of the Houston Oral History Project are the recollections and opinions of the speaker and should not be considered substantiated fact, nor are they the opinion of anyone in the Mayor's Office for Cultural Affairs, the Houston Public Library, or the University of Houston Oral History Department.
