Ask a Tutor is a free online tutoring service accessible from any library computer or outside the library if you have internet access and your Power Card. Students between fourth and twelfth grade, GED candidates, and entry-level college students can log onto www.houstonlibrary.org to receive homework assistance from qualified tutors.
Ask a Tutor is offered 7 days a week from 3-10 PM in English and from Sunday to Thursday, 3-9 PM in Spanish.
InfoLive! (Ask A Librarian) is the Library’s real-time online chat with experienced reference librarians. Customers now can receive assistance from reference librarians even if the library isn’t open. Thanks to this new partnership, librarians are available any time of the day or night – 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year – through the library’s participation in the new InfoLive online reference service. Anyone who needs help finding information may submit questions through a link on the HPL Web site.
Questions will be answered by HPL staff or by any librarian participating in the program’s worldwide network of reference librarians.
The Library’s collection contains a vast amount of information for student research and test preparation. Multiple copies of the great classics in literature are available at each HPL library location. GED, ACT and SAT guides can also be checked out. Students can also practice taking the exams by visiting the Learning Express Library database, available in the research section of our web site.
Students enrolled in vocational or trade schools can also benefit from the Library’s selection of entrance examination guidebooks, how-to manuals and other resources.
