Do more research

There are all sorts of records that can help you. The best place to start is at the Clayton Library. The staff can look at your chart and help you find more information. They can help you find books and web sites to assist in your research as well as provide addresses and phone numbers for other people who might be able to help.

Some materials you will be looking for at the library include: county and local histories that might have biographical sketches, city directories, published family histories, indexes to vital records, cemetery inventories, and court records.

When you come to the library be sure to bring your family chart (filled in with what you've learned about your family). Asking someone to help you with your genealogy, but leaving your chart behind, is like asking someone to help you with a math problem and not writing it down for them to see. It's important that you bring what you know with you. Also bring your PowerCard (your Houston Public Library Card). The PowerCard is what you will use as a copy card and to get onto the internet. If you do not have a PowerCard you should have your parent or guardian help you get one when you come to the library. Also, you might want some quarters to make copies from the microfilm and a pencil or two to write with.

Clayton Library is a research library so we do not allow any books to be checked out but you can use your PowerCard at one of the other libraries to check out one of the books on this list.
