Central Library Grand Re-Opening Celebration -- the long-awaited Houston Public Central Library re-opens its doors after a two-year, multi-million-dollar renovation. The celebration will be held Saturday, May 31, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 1, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Houston Public Library Foundation invites you to a preview celebration of the grand reopening of Central Library; Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 7 p.m.

LGBT@ HPL with Professor Maria Gonzalez

Join us for the second installment of our new LGBT Programming Series. Maria C. Gonzalez is Associate Professor of English at the University of Houston. Her presentation will be a review and overall on Queer Theory, one of the new fields of study in the academy and a direct product of the GLBT movement. She teaches American literature and cultures with a specialization in Mexican-American literature and a focus on Chicana queer writers. Maria Gonzalez is the author of "Contemporary Mexican-American Women Novelists: Toward a Feminist Identity" (1996) now in its third printing and is currently doing work on an institutional history of Chicana/o literature.
