Houston (October 13, 2006) - The Houston Public Library's Books on the Bayou: Houston Reads Together program presents nationally-recognized children's book author Sarah Weeks during the week of October 23 at three neighborhood libraries. She will entertain middle school children with readings from her most recent book, So B. It. Weeks will also discuss the book, answer questions, and provide autographs. These events are free and open to the public.
So B. It tells the story of Heidi, who lives an unconventional lifestyle with her mentally-disabled mother and their doting neighbor, Bernadette. A mysterious word in her mother's twenty-three-word vocabulary leads Heidi on a cross-country journey in search of the secrets of her past.
Sarah Weeks will be at the following locations:
Wednesday, October 25
Thursday, October 26
Thursday, October 26
Sarah Weeks is a singer, songwriter, and children's book author. Weeks has written more than thirty picture books and middle grade novels, including the Guy series, Regular Guy, Guy Time, Guy Wire, and My Guy, which will soon be a feature film by Disney. So B. It, her most recent novel, was named an American Library Association Notable Children's Book and is on the Texas Bluebonnet Award Master List for 2006-2007.
The Houston Public Library's Sixth Annual Books on the Bayou: Houston Reads Together program brings the community and families together to read the same book at the same time. The goal of this citywide project is to cultivate a culture of reading in Houston by encouraging people to visit libraries, bookstores, community centers, homes, churches, and schools to discuss the book. The Books on the Bayou program will be held through October 28, 2006. Check the Resource Guide available at your neighborhood libraries for author presentations and group book discussions. The Houston Public Library, the City of Houston, Metro, and the Houston Chronicle are the primary sponsors of this initiative.
